French Toast
Adapted from the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook
Makes 2 servings
4 slices soft bread, slightly dried out
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp amaretto or orange liqueur (optional)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch ground nutmeg
Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, liqueur, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Heat a griddle over medium heat and grease with butter or cooking spray. Soak each slice of bread for about 30 seconds on each side, then place on hot griddle. Cook until bottom is browned, then flip and brown the other side.
Serve with maple syrup, warmed fruit, or anything else your heart desires.
